The project was undertaken in 4 phases which included the complete refurbishment of the existing A&E department by creating an integrated Unplanned Care Centre. The busy department was required to be operational throughout the building works which provided significant challenges for the team in affording special attention to patient and staff safety. Further development of the Acute Emergency unit and a separate children's treatment and play area also featured in the phased works which were completed on program in 37 weeks. The existing resuscitation area was expanded to a new six bedded facility equipped with the latest technology. Total cost of the works was £1.14M.
